Warning: BMW does not allow its dealers to repair
stripped treads in the aluminium blocks of its engines
after the engines have overheated and destroyed the
head bolt threads, making it impossible to torque the
head bolts.
This means you must replace the engine at the dealer
and the price to do so can be as high as 15,000 dollars.
What they don't tell you is, a simple fix of replacing the
treads in the block at about one third of the expense.
This is a proven repair method performed on Mercedes
engines for more than 25 years and still performed today
with many of these engines still running including the
hundreds of BMW engines already fixed by independent
